SPEED REVIEW (SUMMARY)
Titanium grinders aren't cheap and this Space Case 2 piece is no exception. But when it comes to quality, it'll cost you and that's just what this is - a high quality grinder that's built right and built to last. If you don't mind the lack of a pollen catch, this 2 piece titanium grinder is just what the doctor ordered. Smooth operation, fine grind, sturdy construction, and no reason to worry about teeth breaking or metal shavings contaminating your blend because this grinder is solid. This is a grinder that we can't help but recommend. Want to buy one, you can pick one up here.
*This is a quick summary, in-depth review below.
Features
While there’s not much to this grinder beyond its simple perfection, there are a few things we’d like to tell you about. For one, it uses Teflon grade O-rings that make for a smooth grind. And it comes in four piece, magnetic, and non-magnetic versions in three different sizes – small, medium, and large.
About
The large version fits well in your hand and is easy to hold, but not as nearly as easy to transport as the medium and especially the small. While all versions work well, we’ve found the large to be the easiest to use. It has the smoothest operation, which we attribute at least in part to the fact that it’s easier for us to latch onto – to grab in our hands and twist.
Why Titanium?
The question of why to use titanium instead of aluminum is an easy one to answer. Aluminum is not good for your health. You don’t want to inhale it and you don’t want to ingest it. With some cheap aluminum grinders, you could end up with aluminum shavings mixed in with your blend. We haven’t seen this with any high-end grinders with one exception: a SharpStone grinder with a transparent lid where the teeth are actually bound to the lid with an adhesive instead of machined from the same block as the lid itself, which allows them to break off into the blend. Titanium on the other hand is much stronger than aluminum, but unfortunately, it’s also more expensive – which is why titanium grinders tend to cost more than their aluminum counterparts.
Final Thoughts
This is one nice Space Case grinder. The only thing it lacks is a pollen collector, which is something you’ll find in the 4 piece version. Still, without it, it makes for an excellent handheld grinder that’s capable of quickly churning out a considerable amount of ground blend in a matter of mere seconds. Its construction is on point, its maker well known, and it does what it’s supposed to do (grind) and it does it extremely well. Plus, it’s made out of titanium, which is preferable to aluminum. We highly recommend this grinder for anyone in need of a top of the line grinder that doesn’t care for a pollen catch. You can buy it online from this store. They’re an authorized dealer so you can rest assured that you’re getting a real Space Case and not some cheap knockoff.
